South Georgia Tormenta FC announced the return of midfielder Aaron Walker for the 2025 season. The 34 year old Georgia native joined the squad in mid-2024 as a free agent after five seasons with league rivals Greenville Triumph.
The club announced the signing as a dual player-coach role, in which he will be “contributing on the field while mentoring and developing the next generation of players.”
Walker plays as a center and defensive midfielder, and has 17 goals across his six seasons in USL League One. He’s one of a handful of remaining players who have been in the league since its start in 2019.
With Tormenta in 2024, he scored twice, including a in his starting 11 debut in August. He’d finish the season as a regular member of the starting 11 at central midfield.
“We are honored to have Aaron back with us for the 2025 season,” said Head Coach Ian Cameron in the team’s press release, “bringing him back was crucial as he will help guide our squad both on and off the field.”
“His high-caliber play and leadership were an invaluable addition to our team during the second half of last season, and we can’t wait to see his impact as he maintains excellence on the field but adds value across more divisions.”
Tormenta has a wealth of experience when it comes to defensive-minded midfielders, also returning long-time pro veteran Conor Doyle and signing Gabriel Cabral from Miami FC. All three present a higher than usual ability to score goals as well, and can switch with ease between defensive midfield and central midfield. Cabral was also part of Tormenta’s 2022 league title-winning squad.
South Georgia Tormenta will start the 2025 campaign at home on Saturday, March 8, against the Richmond Kickers.
