Well, the undefeated streak at home is over for Charlotte FC as they lost 1-0 against the visiting New England Revolution last night. By not picking up any points yesterday, Charlotte drops to 4th in the east with 19 points. Through ten games, the boys have a home record of 5-1-0 and a 1-2-1 record on the road with a goal difference of plus eight. By picking up three points, New England climbed to 10th in the east with 13 points and a goal difference of zero while going 2-2-0 at home and 2-2-1 away from their home fans.
The lineup was the same as I predicted in my preview article. We saw Zaha, Agyemang, and Abada upfront while Bronico, Biel, and Westwood controlled the midfield. The defensive backline consisted of Ream on the left and Scardina on the right with a center back pairing of Privett and Malanda. Once again, Kahlina held it down between the pipes.
Carles Gil found the back of the net for the Revs in the 77th minute to score what would be the game winning goal. This was a match of chances and opportunities. Charlotte controlled possession and out shot New England. The Crown had possession for 56% of the match compared to 43% for the visitors. Shots also went the way of the home team, 18 to 7. Both teams ended the night with four shots on goal each. The boys on the defense worked their tails off, blocking four shots in the loss. However, New England led the way with saves, stopping four shots to Charlotte’s three. In what turned out to be a chippy contest, 29 fouls were called, 17 on the Revs and 12 on the Crown. Despite all the fouls, only six yellow cards were handed out, three to each side. New England led the way in the one stat that matters, the scoreline.Â
New England leaves the Fortress with three points while the boys from the Queen City look to rebound next week as they travel to face the Columbus Crew on the 3rd before traveling back to the Tarheel State for a date with NCFC on the 6th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm against the Crew and the in-state matchup is set for 7:00 pm.
