Atlanta United travel to DC United
Independence Day weekend match just ahead for the Five Stripes in the nation’s capital
It’s another MLS road match for the Five Stripes this weekend while the Mercedes Benz stadium is currently being used for the FIFA Club World Cup knockout stage.
This Saturday, Atlanta United makes the trip to Washington, DC to play DC United in a return to MLS action after the Club World Cup rearranged the Atlanta schedule last weekend as the match at Inter Miami was rescheduled due to Inter playing PSG in the Club World Cup Round of 16.
Both teams will enter Saturday’s match looking for an identity right now as both teams enter the match on three-game losing streaks where they both struggled to score while playing some very porous defense.
Atlanta United enter Saturday’s match sitting in 14th place in the Eastern Conference with 17 points from their 19 matches played this season. Atlanta has not won a road game this season and holds a 0W-7L-2T mark away from the Benz this season gathering just the two meager points out of the nine games played. Atlanta in their last three road matches lost all three games being outscored 9-1 by Columbus, NYCFC, and Red Bull New York.
DC United are just ahead of Atlanta in the table in 12th place with 18 points and hold 2W-5L-4T mark at home. DC lost all three matches played in June and were outscored 10-1 in those three matches largely due to a crushing 1-7 defeat at home to the Chicago Fire on June 7.
Atlanta is still battling versus injuries this season and will be without Williams, Gregersen, Cohen, and Fortune due to a variety of injuries. Slisz is also unavailable for the DC match due to yellow card accumulation.
In better news, Muyumba is back from injury and will be available for Coach Deila as he looks to patch together a competitive squad this Saturday at Audi Field.
Score Prediction: 0-0 draw as both teams continue to deal with the MLS Summertime Blues.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM on Saturday, July 5.
