Chattanooga Red Wolves Sign Defender Yanis Lelin to First Pro Contract
The 23 year old competed against Greenville in the Open Cup after an NCAA career with James Madison University
Chattanooga Red Wolves announced today the signing of Spanish defender Yanis Lelin to his first professional contract.
The 23 year old previously appeared with Asheville City in the US Open Cup against Greenville Triumph in a hard fought battle that went scoreless in 120 minutes. Greenville emerged victorious in penalty kicks after the pro side converted all five attempts, with Asheville having one saved and one missed.
Lelin spent his entire NCAA career with James Madison University, an emerging soccer powerhouse that has seen multiple alumni turn professional in recent years. He joins fellow active USL League One professionals from JMU Evan Southern (Portland Hearts of Pine) and Rodrigo Robles (Greenville Triumph).
Lelin will add depth to the left side of the pitch for Chattanooga, a club still tinkering with formations and starters.
Head Coach Scott MacKenzie called Lelin a “dynamic player with a fantastic engine and an eye for creating chances,” pointing out his capability to play anywhere on the left side of the pitch.
“His experience at JMU shows he can perform at a high level, and his versatility gives us important options down the left side,” said MacKenzie, “he’s technically gifted, and brings a professional mindset that fits perfectly with our vision for the 2025 season.”
According to the club, Lelin will be available for selection this weekend as Chattanooga faces Birmingham Legion on Sunday in Jägermeister Cup action.
