In a surprise to many, Ian Cameron is stepping down from head coach of Tormenta FC, the team announced today.
Ian Cameron who is from Glasgow, Scotland joined the Tormenta family in 2019 as the head coach of the USL 2 team. He lead that team to a USL 2 Southern Conference championship and a National Semifinals appearance in 2019. In 2020 he was promoted to head coach of Tormenta’s USL League 1 side as John Miglarese was promoted to Technical Director.
In his second full year Ian would lead Tormenta to the USL League 1 Championship, defeating Chattanooga in front of the home crowd in Statesboro. During his time he has also lead Tormenta to the round of 32 in the US Lamar Open Cup, where they would see their side knock out USL Championship League sides Charleston Battery, Birmingham Legion, Miami FC and facing multiple MLS teams to include an impressive 3-2 loss to Inter Miami in 2022. In the end, Ian would amass a record of 58-73-33 over his almost five years with Tormenta.
As Tormenta remains still within the playoff hunt with 12 games remaining it has been announced that they will search nationally for his successor, while allowing Mark McKeever to serve as the interm Head Coach. Jordan Bell remains assistant coach. Mark McKeever is the former manager for One Knoxville SC. Some of the accolades he brings is winning the 2021 USL League 2 national title with Des Moines and a 222-72-18 record with Young Harris College over his 17 seasons with them. Jordan Bell has worked with Mark at Young Harris, Des Moines and One Knoxville which should help a smooth transition for the team as they prepare to face Westchester SC on Sunday August 10th.
The team will need to keep their focus as they will have 3 matches in the next 13 days with all being on the road before they return home on 30 August to face Forward Madison FC. It will be interesting to see how the players will adjust to this change while competing to move up in the standings.
Until next time, Vamos Tormenta
