Impact advance in UPSL Georgia playoffs 1-0 over Augusta
89th minute goal from the Georgia Impact grabs the win.
Saturday afternoon in Augusta saw the visiting Georgia Impact SC claim a 1-0 win in the final minutes of the match to advance past the Augusta Soccer Team in UPSL Georgia Division 1 playoff action.
Rodrigo Hernandez-Montero scored the lone goal of the match in the 89th minute to send the Impact into the next round of the playoffs.
A physical match from whistle to whistle, Augusta earned a penalty kick in the first half after a trip inside the box in the 25th minute. The penalty kick was shot low to the right of the Impact goalkeeper Cyril C. Vital who guessed correctly and dove quickly to turn the shot away and keep the match scoreless.
The match seemed to be heading to extra time knotted 0-0 but a quick cross from the left flank in the 89th minute created a scramble at the top of the Augusta penalty area. A quick shot from the Impact was saved by Adelphe Amehon in the Augusta net as he parried the ball off the far post only to see the ball drop in front of the wide-open net where Rodrigo Hernandez-Montero was first to pounce on the loose ball to drive in the only goal of the match.
Augusta concludes their inaugural season with a 7W-3L-1T record and a solid second-place finish in the UPSL Georgia South Conference.
The Georgia Impact now hold a 7W-3L-1T record and advance to play in the next round of the Spring 2025 UPSL Division 1 promotion playoffs.
