Charlotte wrapped up their three-game homestand with a much-needed victory, securing all three points in a 1-0 win over Westchester.
The visitors controlled possession early, forcing goalkeeper Matt Levy into several key saves to keep the match level. In the 20th minute, Charlotte struck first when Christian Chaney finished off a well-placed pass from Omar Ciss.
Despite Westchester dominating possession for much of the night, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Their best chance came in the 72nd minute when Levy was drawn out of goal, but the shot thundered off the crossbar and bounced out.
Westchester struggled getting to the back line as Charlotte’s defense came up big all game. Nick Spielman had a few headers late in the game to get out of their own zone.
Charlotte had opportunities late to double their lead, including several dangerous corner kicks, but couldn’t convert. Still, the single goal was enough to see them through.
The Independence now hit the road for a three-game stretch before returning home on September 12 to face FC Naples at American Legion Memorial Stadium. With the win, Charlotte moves into a tie for fourth in the standings on 31 points as they push toward the top heading into the final stretch of the season.
