Late goal for River City splits the points in UPSL Mid-Atlantic match
River City FC continue their stong return to UPSL soccer
It was an 88th minute goal from River City FC’s Nyashadzashe Makosa to earn a draw Saturday night in Irmo versus Mint Hill II in UPSL Division 1 Mid-Atlantic soccer.
River City FC had a dream start to the match winning a penalty kick in just the 3rd minute after a hand ball was spotted inside the Mint Hill penalty box. The Mint Hill keeper guessed correctly and turned away the spot kick to keep the match scoreless.
The match turned into a midfield duel as both teams searched for a way forward but the game looked to be going to the half 0-0 until a quick ball behind the River City backline in the 37th minute put Mint Hill #5 in 1v1 for the cool finish past the onrushing River keeper and the 1-0 Mint Hill advantage at the break.
The game settled into the same midfield duel after the intermission but a second yellow card earned a red and sent Mint Hill down to 10 men in the 60th minute totally tilting the field in the favor of the hosts. River City used this advantage to send wave after wave of balls into the Mint Hill area but just couldn’t apply the final touch to level the match until the final seconds of the period.
In the 88th minute it was a River City free kick that provide the break through moment for the hosts when Nyashadzashe Makosa crashed the goal and nodded the ball past the onrushing Mint Hill keeper with a glancing header that found the nets and leveled things up 1-1. River City rattled the crossbar in the 89th minute and almost grabbed all three point at the final whistle but the match stayed knotted 1-1 at full time

With the result River City FC continue their successful return to UPSL soccer now holding a 1W-0L-1T mark as they sit atop the UPLS Division 1 Mid-Atlantic table on 4 points.
