It’s no secret that Charlotte FC has struggled in their last three matches but tonight provides another oppurtunity to get back on track as NYCFC comes to The Fortress. Looking at the table, Charlotte comes into the match in tenth place on 26 points while the visitors are currently in seventh place in the east on 31 points. Both teams enjoy playing at home as opposed to the road. Charlotte has compiled a 6-2-1 record in the Queen City while managing a 2-9-1 record on the road. On the flip side, NYCFC has been dominant at home going 8-3-0 while they struggle away from the Big Apple to the tune of a 1-4-4 record. Will Charlotte gain momentum after picking up points in their last match or will NYCFC put it together on the road to pick up three points and continue their playoff push?
Before we get into tonight's match, we need to talk about the last three games. First up, dropping points against Kansas City wasn’t good but it happens. Going up 1-0 early is a great thing but you need to keep pushing and don’t put all the pressure on the defense. When that happens, you give up two goals in injury time and don’t take home any points when you were moments from grabbing either three or one. Next up was a trip to the Windy City. Giving up three goals in ten minutes is a recipe for disaster no matter the club. However, I did like the fight the team showed in the second half. It would be easy to pack it in but Pep Biel and Idan Toklomati had other ideas as they each scored to bring The Crown back within one. Last week, the boys were able to grab a point after drawing with Orlando City. I’m glad the boys picked up points and were able to score in the second half to pad the lead. While the lead didn’t last long, I was happy the boys were able to escape with a draw. Three tough games, let’s hope the boys can get right tonight.
Getting into my lineup prediction, I think it will look similar to the one we saw against Orlando. One change I could see is Tim Ream finding his way back with the Gold Cup being over. One player I'm certain won’t suit up for Charlotte is Patrick Agyemang. It has been reported that Patrick is on his way to England. With Patrick out, Now is the chance for Idan to shine.
Getting into my match prediction, I think Charlotte picks up three points after a 2-0 win. Pep Biel continues his stellar form and fires one past the keeper after Zaha sets him up with a nice cross in the 32nd minute. This result will hold going into the break and the defense holds firm in the second half. Idan Toklomati beats the defense on a break to put the second goal in the back of the net in the 55th minute. 2-0 Charlotte and I think this result will hold until the end of the match and Charlotte picks up three points.
Before I let you go, I just wanted to say a thank you to three players who are starting a new chapter in new places. To Pat, Joao Pedro, and Luri Tavares, thank you from all of us who support the Crown and best of luck on your new journey.
