In the 22nd Matchday out of 32, Texoma FC will face off in a rematch against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. Chattanooga is trying to hold on to their place at the top of the table (2nd; 34 PTS), while Texoma is fighting to stay in the upper-half (8th; 21 PTS).
Texoma and Chattanooga have only met once before (July 16). That game ended in a 1-1 draw after a late equalizer by Texoma Defender Jordan Chavez in the 94th minute. It was one of the most physical soccer matches I have ever seen, and it featured a total of 14 bookings with 3 of them being red cards for Chattanooga (2 were upgraded from yellow cards). This was considered an upset for Texoma as they fought tooth and nail against one of the most dominant teams in USL League One this season.
I expect the rematch to be just as physical with the Red Wolves vying for 1st. Being 1 point off of Spokane, they will be playing for a win. Texoma will also be playing for a win as the 7, 8, and 9th places are tight, and a loss would almost certainly drop Texoma lower.
Chattanooga’s greatest strength is their defensive calibur. To maximize their defensive structure, the Red Wolves like to play 5 in the back with 2 wing backs. They haven’t lost in league play since June 21, 2025. Chattanooga’s main formation for this streak was the 5-4-1, while in their June 21 loss, and the draw vs Texoma FC, they played a 5-3-2. I expect a 5-4-1 for the rematch.
Recently, Texoma has also taken to the 5-4-1. However, in the last matchup against Chattanooga, Texoma played 4-2-3-1. This formation maximizes the mid-field and forward pushes with lots of room for counter-attacking strategies. Texoma, being a new team founded this season, doesnt have the consistency with just one formation. They seem to change their formation and strategy depending on who they play. However, in their last two games (loss to FC Naples, draw to Charlotte Ind.), they have played the 5-4-1. I expect something different, however, I would not be surprised if we tried the 4-2-3-1 again or keep trying the 5-4-1.
For my final score prediction, I’ll say a 2-2 draw. With both teams playing at their best, I have no doubt that this game has the potential to be a classic.
