Triumph win a wild one in Charlotte
It was a wild 5-4 win for the Greenville Triumph on the road in Charlotte last Saturday night. Chevone Marsh posted a hat trick and Ben Zakowski picked up the late, late game winner at the 90+6 mark to send the Triumph back home down I-85 with all three points in the bag. The Triumph travel to face AV Atra in California this weekend before playing the Indy Eleven on August 20 in the USL Cup quarterfinals in Indianapolis. Marsh for his heroics in Charlotte earned USL One Player-Of-The-Week honors.
Heavyweight battle goes to Lou City
It was a USL Championship heavyweight clash as the Charleston Battery traveled to Louisville City last Saturday night as the top two teams in the USLC clashed on the soccer field. It was not the Battery’s night as Lou City ran out a 4-1 win to regain the top spot in the table. Lou City blasted out to a 4-0 advantage at the half and MD Myers pulled a goal back in the 52nd minute for the Battery to spoil the almost perfect night for Lou City who packed 13,611 fans (2nd highest total ever) into Lynn Family Stadium. Charleston continue their road trip this weekend at Pittsburgh.
Palmetto Athletic win 5-2 in friendly
Palmetto Athletic FC hosted a Community Day last Saturday as Mountains to Sea FC provide the competition. Palmetto posted a 5-2 result in the exhibition match as Horacio Martinez recorded a hat trick earning Man-of-the-Match honors for the hosts.
