South Carolina soccer action…all in one quick read.
Palmetto Athletic FC set to join APSL for fall 2025 season
The America Premier Soccer League is expanding into the southeast and Palmetto Athletic FC is the first South Carolina franchise announced for the upcoming fall 2025 season. The APSL Piedmont Conference will feature teams along the I-85 corridor across the Upstate in both North and South Carolina. More teams will be announced in the coming weeks.
Charleston Battery make it five wins in a row: MD Myers is USL-C Player of the Week
The Battery continued their winning ways with a 3-1 win at the Tampa Bay Rowdies last weekend. It was an early PK from Cal Jennings in the 7th minute and a MD Myers brace in the 19th and 28th minutes to see the Battery post their fifth-straight USL Championship victory. Myers earned Week 10 USL Championship Player of the Week honors for his performance which is his second USLC Player of the Week honor this season (also won in Week 7). San Antonio FC will make a rare visit to the Lowcounty this weekend for a 7:30 PM kickoff Saturday night.
Soda City remain undefeated in UPSL Premier Division
It was another match and another Soda City FC victory, this time over Charlotte SA Sunday afternoon at Irmo HS. Carlos Cepeda scored the lone goal in the 1-0 Soda City win. The 16 points from a 5-0-1 record finds Soda City in first place with four more regular season matches to play in the spring 2025 season. The defending UPSL National Champs look to be gearing up for another playoff push as they have stayed undefeated this spring opening up a four-point advantage at the top of the table. Catch them if you can…
Marriott with another multi-goal game; Heat climb into second place
Tom Marriott scored a brace and the South Carolina United Heat claimed a 3-0 win over Asheville FC on their recent trip to the Western NC mountains last weekend. Marriott now has 10 goals on the season and is 4th in the nation in the UPSL Premier division goal-scoring race (Editor’s Note: Just watch his last 5 goals, they’re all unbelievable). With just four games left to play in the spring season, the second-place Heat look to be setting up another huge showdown versus their cross-town rivals Soda City in the season finale on June 14 at Irmo HS.
Charleston United crush the NC Ballers 9-0
It was all Charleston United last weekend in Summerville as the hosts saw six different players score a goal in their 9-0 rout of the visiting NC Ballers. Matthias Dennis, Kemar Edwards, and Leonardo DAmbrosio all scored a brace in the match. Charleston United have scored a UPSL Mid-Atlantic South Conference leading 26 goals on the season.
