Play Me Some Mountain Music: Appalachian FC Dominates Port City for a 4-1 Win
It’s always a good thing to start the season with a win. Even better if that win comes in front of your loyal supporters. Well, that’s what happened last Saturday in Boone, North Carolina when Appalachian FC opened their NPSL campaign with a 4-1 win over Wilmington based Port City FC.
The party started early with a goal from Jaron Oughterson, who put one in the back of the net for App FC’s first goal of the season and his first goal of the night. Three minutes later, Jaron grabbed his second to push double the lead in front of the Squatch Army. The first half ended 2-0 in favor of the home side. When the second half started, it didn’t take long for Oughterson to get his third goal and complete his hat trick. Not a bad way to start your season if you ask me.
Luke Alexander Frost decided to join the party when he put one past the keeper in the 59th minute to push the lead to four. Port City didn’t go down without a fight as they found the back of the net as the match ended to put the final score at 4-1 in favor of the boys from Boone.
After match week one Appalachian FC sit’s at the top of the Southeastern Conference with three points. They are joined at the top by Bristol Rhythm and Hickory FC after both teams managed to grab three points in their opening games. Following their win, the boys head east for their second game of the season. The boys will be tested on the road as they are scheduled to play Greenville, NC based Greenville United on Wednesday for a 6:00 pm kickoff. Will the hot start carry over into week two?
