South Georgia Tormenta host Harbor City in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup first round
Ibis look to remain undefeated in USOC matches played at Tormenta Stadium
The South Georgia Tormenta will look to remain undefeated in Lamar Hunt US Open Cup matches played at Tormenta Stadium as Harbor City FC (UPSL) visit Statesboro in the first round of the 2025 tournament.
Kickoff is set for 7 PM on Thursday, March 20.
Opening in the fall of 2022, Tormenta has posted a perfect 3-0 mark in home USOC matches inside Statesboro’s Tormenta Stadium over the past two seasons with wins over Rio Grande Valley FC (USL-C) 2-1, CF America CFL Spurs (UPSL) 1-0, and the Savannah Clovers (NISA) 4-0.
Tormenta just defeated AV ALTA FC last Saturday inside Tormenta Stadium for their first win of the early USL League One season and look to be a very strong team with the additions of Austin Pack in the nets and Yaniv Bazini in the attack.
Harbor City FC are still in preseason mode and will open their UPSL Florida Central Zone 2 season on March 23. The team finished with a 6-3-1 mark in the fall UPSL season scoring 27 goals while allowing just 8 goals.
Harbor City FC slipped past CF America CFL Spurs 5-4 in penalty kicks in the final round of USOC qualifying last fall after the teams played to a 0-0 deadlock after 120 minutes. Goalkeeper Bryce Notardonato made the critical save in the penalty shootout to send the team into the USOC proper in 2025 at the expense of the team that knocked them out of USOC qualifying the previous year.
Expect the home side to be rude hosts on the evening and come out in a high press looking to overwhelm the amateur side from Florida on their US Open Cup debut.
Kickoff is set for 7 PM on Thursday, March 20 and will be streamed on the US Soccer YouTube channel.
