The NPSL Briefing Week 4: The Season Is Getting Busy
Jacksonville and New Orleans remain undefeated; Port City look to threaten big names in the Southeast.
Welcome to Week 4 of The NPSL Briefing! Below are our Games of the Week in the Gulf Coast Sunshine and Southeast Conferences, along with last week’s results and a preview into every game this weekend.
Gulf Coast Sunshine Conference:
Game of the Week: Naples United vs Florida FC
Saturday, May 31 at 7:00pm EST
John N Allen Family Stadium (Naples FL; Capacity 1,100)
This week's feature match will be the first of two this week where Naples United to face Florida FC (they'll play again on Wed). It's early in the season, but Naples has looked just a bit stronger than FC Florida to this point. I would look for both games to be competitive, but I'm expecting Naples to get six points at FC Florida's expense.
Last Week’s Results:
Miami Dutch Lions 1-1 FC Florida
PSC Florida 1-6 Jacksonville Armada U23
New Orleans Jesters 2-1 Club de Lyon
Global Soccer Pathways 1-5 Naples United
This Week:
Club de Lyon vs Global Soccer Pathways: (Saturday, May 31 at 4:00)
This will be the first match of a double-header, followed by Naples United vs FC Florida on the same pitch. CdL has lost the last two games by one goal against the top two teams in the table (on the road). They should be able to make short work of GSP and take the three points. Note: the NPSL site is listing CdL as the home team, even though the match is on GSP's field.
Jacksonville Armada U23 vs Miami Dutch Lions: (Saturday, May 31 at 7:00pm EST):
Jacksonville is off to a great start this season, and they'll be looking to strengthen their hold on the top of the table. Xavier Csato had a hat trick against PSC Florida, and he'll be looking for more here. Miami will be leaning on their defense to keep it close and try to steal points.
PSC Florida vs New Orleans Jesters: (Saturday, May 31 at 7:00pm CST)
This will be the first road match for the Jesters, and a rematch of the first game of the season (Jesters won 3-0). PSC is looking for a positive result in what will be their final match for the Summer. New Orleans’ top scorers are Jack Greenwood and Juan Pablo Gonzalez, with two goals each.
FC Florida vs Naples United: (Wednesday, June 4 at 5:00 EST)
The second game of this series, and second match-up this week. Look for Naples to edge FC Florida in a close game.
Miami Dutch Lions vs Global Soccer Pathways: (Wednesday, June 4 at 6:30 EST)
Miami will back home after the trip up to face first place Jacksonville, and could be looking for their first win of this season. History says that this will be a close game, and that GSP could turn the tables on Miami.
Standings:
Jacksonville Armada: 9 Points (+9 GD, 3 GP)
New Orleans Jesters: 6 Points (+4 GD, 2 GP)
FC Florida: 4 points (+1 GD, 3 GP)
Naples United: 3 points (4 GD, 1 GP)
Club de Lyon: 3 points (-1 GD, 3 GP)
Miami Dutch Lions: 1 point (0 GD, 1 GP)
Global Soccer Pathways: 0 Points (-6 GD, 2 GP)
PSC Florida: 0 Points (-11 GD, 3 GP)
Southeast Conference:
Game of the Week: Port City FC vs. Charlottetowne Hops FC
Saturday, May 31 at 2:00pm EST
Legion Stadium (Wilmington, NC; Capacity 6,000)
This mid-table clash holds a lot more significance than what meets the eye. Port City have not won only one, but two games in 2025 after a winless 2024, most recently triumphing 3-2 over Bristol Rhythm AFC at home. With another win, they could draw level with Appalachian FC for 2nd place in the conference, and they’ll look to keep their explosive production in the attack (7 goals in the last 2 matches) going against Charlottetowne Hops. The Hops had two games against Burlington United last week, winning 6-1 at home and 3-2 away, but those first points of the year were against a weaker team in the league. This match against Port City, after losing to Greenville and Hickory earlier in the year, will help determine if they can land around mid-table like 2024 or will be stuck near bottom. However, a win could have them tied for 2nd with an extra game played.
Last Week’s Results:
Charlottetowne Hops 6-1 Burlington United
Port City FC 3-2 Bristol Rhythm AFC
Greenville United 3-0 865 Knoxville
Appalachian FC 0-1 Hickory FC
Burlington United 2-3 Charlottetowne Hops (Midweek)
Editor’s Note: Apologies for the absence of midweek match previews in our last report.
Hickory FC 3-1 Greenville United (Midweek)
This Week:
Hickory FC vs. Burlington United (Saturday, May 31 at 7:00pm EST): Hickory are top and are in firm control of the the Southeast Conference after a gritty 1-0 away win against Appalachian FC last week. Burlington have had a rough start to their expansion season, showing promise in the first few games just to sit on one point. With no results away from home so far and Hickory’s incredible atmosphere, expect a big win for the league leaders.
Bristol Rhythm AFC vs. Appalachian FC (Saturday, May 31 at 7:00pm EST): Appalachian FC may have lost this past week, but their team is still right there as one of the best semi-pro clubs in the nation. They travel away to Bristol, who won their first and only home game against 865 Knoxville. While that result made us question if their new-look team would lead to results, they’ve lost their two games since. They did score two goals in both, though, so they may give Appalachian FC a challenge.
865 Alliance vs. Charlottetowne Hops (Wednesday, June 4 at 7:00pm EST): The Hops could pick up more points against one of the weaker clubs in the conference in 865 Alliance. The Knoxville club will be having their first home game of the year, but with a woeful 0-0-3 record, it’s becoming clear the club didn’t add enough pieces to compete in the conference. Charlottetowne should pick up points, but they might make it harder than it needs to be for themselves away from home (especially after the close 3-2 result at Burlington).
Standings:
Hickory FC: 12 Points (+7 GD, 4 GP)
Appalachian FC: 9 Points (+5 GD, 4 GP)
Greenville United: 7 Points (0 GD, 5 GP)
Charlottetowne Hops: 6 Points (+3 GD, 4 GP)
Port City FC: 6 Points (+1 GD, 3 GP)
Bristol Rhythm AFC: 3 Points (-1 GD, 3 GP)
Burlington United: 1 Point (-9 GD, 4 GP)
865 Alliance: 0 Points (-6 GD, 3 GP)
