As an Apotheos fan, that Asheville game was a tough watch. I hope to see them upset Columbus. These kind of matches are part of joining a new league. I think these next two matches will cement where they are in terms of skill. Great roundup and thanks for your reporting!
I watched it on replay, knowing what the final score would be. My first impression was that Apotheos has a big, tall lineup. Not just the 6'5" CB. When they lined up for the National Anthem it was a crazy difference to see. Asheville got the two early goals, and as the first half went along, I couldn't see how it was ever going to get to 10-0 (4-0 at half on a very late Asheville goal). Then Asheville ran out a ton of subs in the second half and just ran your guys to death.
Apotheos is good, and that Asheville game will end up being an anomoly for sure. If teams dont ignore, they're in for a rude awakening. That being said, I don't think Coach Teach will let them sneak up on Columbus. I would flip a coin on that one; I could see a draw, or either team wins a close game.
Asheville I think is the most compelling team at the moment. Simply because their only two matches are against teams that have 0 points and only a few goals. Also, from what I can tell. Only 1 team is guaranteed to make it out of this division. The second team will be based on PPG with the other runners-up in the Southern Conference. *cough* The South should have gotten a play-in round like the East *cough*.
It's brutal. You're correct that there are no guarantees that even the second place team will make the playoffs, especially if they beat each other up. It's a shame that so many good teams will get left out. Asheville is going to be extremely tough to dethrone.
