Don’t look now but Appalachian FC sits in first place in the Southeast Conference after match week three. Following a 2-1 defeat of 865 Alliance on Saturday, the boys from Boone earned a record of 3-0-0 to go along with nine points and a goal difference of plus six. The offense has been on fire and the defense has been clicking to the tune of six goals scored to only two goals allowed. Coach Parker is cooking up some Magic in the High Country.
Getting into the game, Luke Frost got the party started with a goal in the 37th minute to put the home team up 1-0. However, 865 Alliance evened the score just before the half as Andy Sullins found the back of the net in extra time. Both teams headed to the break even, 1-1. Chase Gilley broke the tie in the 75th minute to put App Fc up 2-1. Gilley’s goal proved to be the game winner as 865 Alliance was unable to equalize and when the final whistle blew, Appalachian FC protected their home turf and earned three points.
A contest between one and two in the Southeast Conference awaits the boys from Boone welcome Hickory FC to town in a matchup that is sure to produce fireworks. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm on the 24th.
